Tarra, and, underneath, Bella. Also, sanctuary co-founder Scott Blais with the duo.
Special Golden friend Jessica (h/t) shared this incredible tale with me. I am just speechless. It says so much, on multiple levels, striking an important cord in a world characterized by aggression towards those who look different.
I am concerned about how Tarra will handle one day losing her Bella, as elephants’ life spans mirror ours and Bella’s, of course, is significantly shorter. Elephants, who cry saltwater tears as we do, grieve deeply for those they love. So, I hope the folks at the sanctuary will be able to help her through the process.

Hi…yes, lovely! I also posted their love story on my blog.
I’m so glad that you posted this! I could watch this video clip over and over and over again. It is so touching. I wish that humans could behave as open-mindedly, non-judgmentally, and lovingly as Bella and Tarra do together. Like you, I worry about how Tarra will handle losing Bella, as I have heard that elephants grieve deeply, like humans. I had never heard that elephants cry saltwater tears … that is amazing! I love elephants. Thanks again for posting this …
